Epilepsy Camps

A variety of camping experiences are available for kids and teens with epilepsy. If you'd like to explore further, use our search tool to find a camp near you.

What are the different types of epilepsy camps?

Camps for children and youths with epilepsy are usually broken down into 3 types:

Epilepsy Exclusive Camps are only for children with epilepsy. Medical supervision is usually high, and children exclusively interact with others with seizure disorders, providing a supportive peer environment.

Mainstream Epilepsy Camps are held at regular summer camps. Some of the campers have epilepsy, but most do not, giving children and teens with epilepsy a chance to interact with children who do not have epilepsy. Medical supervision is usually provided by a 24-hour nurse, with a neurologist on call and camp counselors who have received basic seizure safety training.

Camps for Those With Disabilities often accept children and teens with epilepsy. They also accommodate children with other disabilities. This can be a good option for children and teens with severe seizure disorders, as medical supervision in these camps is usually very high.
