Epilepsy and School

A resource for parents and teachers

Now teachers and parents of students with epilepsy can help create a better understanding of the condition with a free online program.

Visit epilepsy advocates parents section.

Created by pediatric neurologist G. Dean Timmons, MD, and associate professor Beverly Timmons, EdD, Epilepsy Classroom has tools and resources to help students, teachers, and administrators understand epilepsy, know how to respond to seizures in class, and to feel comfortable talking about it.

Some Epilepsy Classroom Highlights:

1. Talking with Teachers
With printouts parents can give teachers as well as information teachers can share with students, Epilepsy Classroom helps schools welcome students with epilepsy confidently and gives tips about how to talk about epilepsy in class.

2. Lesson Plans
A way to make epilepsy an easy part of the curriculum. With information and activities geared to preschool through high school, each lesson plan helps teach students the facts about epilepsy.

3. Seizure First Aid
A step-by-step guide to help teachers know how to respond if a student experiences a seizure at school and how to talk to their class about it afterwards.
